Immigrants Account For Over A Third Of U.S. Healthworker Deaths

In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officially reported that 928 healthcare workers died from Covid-19 up to 17 December, a figure it admitted is likely an undercount. An analysis by The Guardian and Kaiser Health News found that the number of healthcare workers who have died in the U.S. in the pandemic is significantly higher with 2,921 deaths counted.

The research found that immigrant healthcare workers accounted for more than a third of all deaths. Out of 660 instances where country of origin data was available, 421 deaths were among people born in the United States. 90 healthcare workers from the Philippines have also lost their lives in the U.S. struggle to contain Covid-19, along with individuals from many other nations.Infographic: Immigrants Account For Over A Third Of U.S. Healthworker Deaths | Statista
