Dear readers,

The new data is here! On May 31, FReDA published the complete data set of the second survey wave. The data from sub-waves W2A and W2B (and their partners) are now available to all researchers and can be requested via the GESIS data center. This means that FReDA now offers up-to-date data from five sub-surveys and thus also enables longitudinal analyses. The additional survey of partners also makes dyadic studies possible. In this newsletter, we have compiled the most important information about the data release for you. You will also find brief and concise information on accessing the data.

And that's not all: the data collected in Germany as part of the GGS-II is now also available at almost the same time. They are part of the second survey wave of the GGS, which was launched in 2020 and in which around 20 countries and territories from Europe, Asia and Latin America are participating. The GGS-II is unique: on the one hand, this is due to the large geographical coverage, especially the survey in Central and Eastern European countries. Secondly, the GGS is the only international comparative longitudinal panel study that covers the entire age range of adults. The surveys are repeated regularly at three-year intervals so that changes over time can be examined. FReDA collected the data for Germany and we are delighted to be involved in this exciting survey.

However, in recent months we have not only been working on the questionnaires, conducting the surveys and processing the data, but have also been conducting research into the content. Policy advice is a central component of FReDA. In our latest policy brief, Sabine Diabaté, Lena C. Frembs, Till Kaiser and Martin Bujard looked at the topic of "loneliness" - and came to some very interesting conclusions. They registered a significant increase in feelings of loneliness, observed marked differences between different population groups and identified various "protective and risk factors". The policy brief is just one example of the potential of FReDA's data.

Finally, we would like to draw your attention to two exciting events that FReDA is organizing after the summer vacations. Firstly, we would like to draw the attention of doctoral students and postdocs in particular to the FReDA Autumn School 2024. At this three-day workshop at Mainz University, researchers from the project team will introduce you to working with the panel's data sets. This will give you the opportunity to get an impression of what analyses are possible with the FReDA data.

On the other hand, we would like to draw your attention to the Second International FReDA User Conference, which will take place on October 7 and 8, 2024 at GESIS in Mannheim. Around 20 studies will be presented at the conference, most of which were developed using data from the FReDA panel. The conference offers plenty of space for scientific exchange, lively discussions and certainly also good networking opportunities within the scientific community. You can find out more in the "News & Dates" section.

We will keep you informed about all this on our homepage, in the social media (X, Mastodon, LinkedIn and Instagram) - and of course in our newsletter.

We hope you enjoy reading it!

Best regards
The FReDA team
