Shrinking smartly and sustainably

Join our upcoming workshop at The European Week of Regions and Cities.

When: Monday, 11 October 2022 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM CEST
Where: Online

Population Europe, hosted by the Max Planck Society, and OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities are organising the session ‘Shrinking smartly and sustainably’ at the 20th European Week of Regions and Cities during 10-13 October 2022. We invite you to exchange smart and sustainable solutions to the increasing population losses.

The online-workshop brings together policy-makers and experts to discuss policies on adapting to shrinking populations in regions and countries experiencing sustained and strong population losses. Prominent experts will be asked for a short review of the current depopulation and ageing trends as well as the local and European perspectives to act upon the demographic challenges. In the second round, the OECD and Population Europe will propose a number of ‘imagined futures’ based on foresight analysis to stir debate and identify policy trade-offs and challenges for different types of regions. The participants following the session online will have the chance to comment and ask questions live via multiple platforms.
