Why men die earlier than women

Biological factors, health behaviour and socio-economic conditions

We have known for a long time that men have a lower life expectancy than women. Researchers have been trying to identify the causes of this gender difference for almost as long. The knowledge gained so far is like a big jigsaw puzzle, of which we have most - though not all - individual pieces, that have yet to be put together to form a big picture. The event will therefore attempt to explore the most important factors and the connections linking them in order to come closer to creating an overall picture of the determinants of gender differences in mortality. In particular, the aspects will be highlighted where health policy measures should start in order to better exploit the potential of life expectancy of women and men.

6 September from 13:00 to 14:00 CEST
