According to the UNHCR, two thirds of all refugees and displaced people originated from just five countries in mid-2020, while the top 10 countries of origin accounted for 82 percent of the global total. Even though the war in Syria has been winding down, more than 6.5 million Syrians remain displaced outside of their home country.
Syria's refugees have a huge global footpint and are hosted by 127 countries, with Turkey (3.6 million), Lebanon (884,000) and Jordan (658,000) the most important host countires, while Germany (562,000) and Sweden (114,000) host the largest Syrian refugee populations outside the immediate region.
